Tooth-colored fillings, or composite fillings, provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-midsize restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when we prepare the tooth, and this may result in a smaller filling than that of an amalgam, or silver filling. Composites can also be “bonded” or adhesively help in a cavity, often allowing us to make a more conservative repair to the tooth.
There are strong, effective, and aesthetic alternatives to amalgam fillings. Dr. Almasri prefers to replace amalgam fillings with tooth-colored fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays.
For patients who have metal fillings that they’d like removed, Dr. Almasri can remove amalgam fillings and restore your all-white smile with tooth-colored fillings, inlays, onlays, or crowns.
