A crown is full-coverage non-removable tooth encasement that can be used as a restorative solution to badly decayed teeth by providing stability and strength to an otherwise unsound tooth. All porcelain, porcelain fused to gold, or gold crown material will be used based upon the reason for placement. Crowns can also serve as solution for a variety of cosmetic concerns when used alone or in conjunction with veneers.
The crown procedure is very simple and takes just two visits. On the first appointment, the tooth is prepared. This is when the decay is removed, a temporary crown is placed, and the impression for the permanent crown is taken. This impression is then sent to our lab to be crafted by an adept ceramist. The crown is made to match your other teeth in size, shape and color. In just three weeks your crown will be completed and ready to be cemented. Your second appointment will consist of removing the temporary crown, placing the permanent crown, and checking the bite to ensure proper fit.
