A dental implant is a permanent solution to replacing missing teeth without having to use removable appliances such as dentures and partial dentures. They can also be used as an alternative to bridges. One of the major benefits of implants in comparison to bridges is that the adjacent teeth do not have to have any tooth structure removed and allow for those healthy teeth to remain unadulterated. An implant restoration feels like a natural tooth and it allows for chewing as normal. There are many factors that determine whether a patient is a good candidate for an implant. These include general health, the amount and condition of the bone, and the number of teeth being replaced.

Implants involve a two step process, first, placing a titanium post that acts as a substitution for the root and then bonding a crown to it that functions as a natural tooth. We work in conjunction with an oral surgeon or periodontist who will place the post. Dr. Riha oversees the course of action and maintains thorough communication with the coordinating doctor.
